How our donation has helped a very important organisation

Back in November 2024 we made a donation to the Mersea First Responders of which our club member Graham Frost is proudly a volunteer along side his regular job with the East of England Ambulance service, below is a copy of a resent email from Graham updating the club on how the donated funds have been put to good use over the last year and how we have made a difference.

Email as follows

Following the Clacton Classic Car Club’s extremely generous donation to the West Mersea Community First Responders, I have put together a brief overview of what your donation has done not only for us, but the residents of West and East Mersea, plus some patients just off the Island.

We have a very strong dedicated team of 16 volunteers lead by Christine Cheetham who you met when we presented to the club last year.

The team includes Medical Trainers, Full Time EEAST Ambulance staff, a Paediatric Registered Nurse, plus other members made up from the local community all living on the Island.

We continually train every Monday for two hours to keep our skills ready for any possible life threatening condition that may be given to us.

In total we have 16 volunteers who sometimes share overnight shifts, but generally we cover from 08.00 to 18.00. Some of the team are also what’s known as a “Good Sam” where they will be alerted when not logged on to CFR duties for serious jobs like Cardiac Arrests.

Over the last 12 months we have the following statistics;

Hours covered by the team on duty/on call = 2,957 hours / Patients Attended to = 168 / Team Training Sessions = 21

Pictured are most of the team on the last training night, plus the extensive kit we carry, including the six bags (3 oxygen bags and the 3 skinny red kit bags) you kindly donated the money for. Since they have been used virtually on a daily basis since they were purchased, it’s now difficult to identify them!! I actually took the main picture so I wasn’t in it! However, when I was on duty the next day with Suze, we had a picture taken, with the kit! You may notice in the group picture one of our training mannequins being assisted by Tom second in the from the right!!

hope this explains how we’ve put the Club’s generosity to excellent lifesaving use!

Sadly we have to say good by to our dear friend Derek King

We were all shocked to hear of the sudden passing of Derek on 28th of Jan, our condolence go to Derek’s wife Marie and the family at this sad time. Derek had been a long time member of the club and will be membered for his cheerful and friendly personality along with his positive outlook on life despite later health struggles.

RIP Derek you will be missed and remembered by all.

Funeral service to be held on

Not a good start to the year for Glemham

Could this be yet another show going by the wayside.

A few oldies looking at some old things

A couple of us visited the Clacton & District local history Society on the 13th January, we met with local historian George Hardwick who showed us around some of the exhibits and chatted about all things old after which we presented the Society with a donation of a £1000.

The museum will be moving to new temporary site at Bishop park Jaywick Lane early March due to its current location Clacton Library being demolished, the long term future of the Museum is unsure so we would ask everyone to support the Clacton & District local history Society, Clacton has a wonderful past.
